Domain Names

Which ever provider do you chose (paid or free), you'll get a tedious URL like server/members/paid/ yourname or something like that. It' obvious that you'll have to find a shorter domain name. There is a couple of ways that you can do this. First of all, there are free URL redirection services like www.cjb.net (yourname.cjb.net) , www.kickme.to (yourname.kickme.to and few other choices), www.freeURL.com (many possibilities like: yourname.is.cool or yourname.co.inc) and many more. As you see they are not bad at all, best of all they are FREE. They will work great for your secondary websites or for the first few months of your business (or until you see what will actually come of it), but for your prime website, the one you expect will make the most profits, you HAVE to get a .com .net .cc or .info, they are standard in internet business and you just have to go with that standard (there are few other i.e. .tv or .co.uk they'll work fine too). The best one is .com of course, but all the good ones (meaning = short) are already taken.

Here are some criteria concerning domains that I think you should stick to:.
1) A good domain name should be short, the shorter the better. Short is better chiefly for two reasons: it is easy to spell without error and it is memorable.

2) But not all short URLs are memorable. Imagine a company with DKWV as initials, dkwv.com is short, but it is only memorable to a handful of company insiders. Now if you're IBM, then using initials for your domain name makes sense; that's how your customers know you. But most of the time, using initials for your domain name is a most unmemorable and customer-unfriendly approach to business.

3) The very best domain name should be one you can guess. Just a few days ago I needed some resources on Perl, I typed cgiresources.com and I was there! If your business name is too clumsy, look for something that relates to your business.

4) Our fourth criterion may seem obvious -- hard to misspell -- but you'd be surprised how many domain names are tough to spell if you've only heard it orally. Many people are poor spellers. Still others are poor typists. Combine them together and you're better off with a short, memorable, logical, easy-to-spell domain name.

Buy Alternate Domain Names!
If you're a very small business, then $70 to secure a domain name for two years may seem like a major investment. But as you grow, you'll wish you had purchased the common misspellings of your company name, or at least the .net and .org versions. If you're successful, your competitors may make a nice living off the traffic from poor spellers who intended to get to your site but weren't apt with the alphabet. You should only advertise one, but you use the others to bring traffic, and point all the domain names to the one site. The investment in multiple domain names is small compared to the potential marketing value to your company.

cash : DomainMLS , CC , DomainDirect, PlanetDomain
