Link Popularity
What is Link Popularity? In short: Link popularity is the total
number of web sites that link to your site.
Good link popularity can dramatically increase traffic to your
web site. Well placed links are an excellent source of consistent
and targeted traffic. And due to recent developments, they can even
generate additional search engine traffic to your site.
Most of the major search engines now factor Link Popularity into
their relevancy algorithms. As a result, increasing the number of
links to your site can actually improve your search engine rankings.
There is still no one "secret trick" to getting good rankings,
but boosting your site's popularity may give it the edge it needs.
Google is great example how link popularity affects your position,
they claim that link popularity is #1 factor in deciding your search
engine position! If you think about it, it makes sense. Good websites,
those with quality content always have a great number of links pointing
to them; take this website for example, in articles about search
engines, META tags, keywords I pointed you to Searchenginewatch.com.
See I did it again! Since this website is not about search engines
alone, I am point you to another website that ONLY deals with search
engines. Why am I pointing exactly to them? Simple: I think they
are the best! So you can expect that a website dealing with, say,
accounting software will at least once point to i.e. anti-virus
software and that would most likely be www.kasperskylabs.com! So
what can you do?
The first solution would be to become the best in your business.
OK, this explains it self, we'll skip this... :)
The second solution is : trade links! You might have noticed that
I offer to exchange links with visitors on every page! There are
some link popularity programs on the Web with this idea: you sign
in, leave your URL, and they give you pages with tons of links that
you should upload to your website, and they will submit them to
search engines automatically, of course your link will be on pages
that are uploaded on other websites. While this was an excellent
idea, and it worked great in the beginning, it is now BUSTED! Yup,
I don't know how, but there have been reports that a lot of sites
that used this technique were banned from search engines permanently!
So what choice do you have left? Find sites with similar content
(but not too similar, meaning: not your direct competitors) and
ask them to link to you. Ask, trade, swap, beg or do everything
you need to get as many of those precious links pointing to you!
