Web Promotion
(basic)
We've come to the most important part in starting new internet
business. It won't matter how good looking your site is, it won't
matter if your site is the best web site made EVER, if nobody will
see it! You have to get people KNOWING about your site at least!
The problem is that beside you, there are hundreds of thousands
of people wanting the same thing. Obviously, saying it's not easy
would be an understatement of the century. If you are going to invest
your money in your new biz it would be the smart decision to invest
it in promoting your website. Why? Well, you can get thru for free,
but so can everyone else. The phrase "being ahead of the others"
is applied to internet based business like no other. Anyway, there
is a couple of things that you can do, and there is no cost to it.
Believe it or not, submitting your website to search engines is
the final step in promoting it, of course it is the most important
too, more than 85% of the visitors will find you thru a search engine.
First of all you have to check the final version of it, meaning
: no dead links, you have to check page loading time (keep in mind
that a good portion of the world still surfs on a 28.8 modems),
you MUST place META tags in the proper way (IMPORTANT!) in your
HTML code, chose good keywords... Anyway, this is a topic that would
take entire website to cover just the basics. You may find useful
Keywords section of this website, which
deals with more practical questions concerning keywords in your
HTML, but it would be smart that before you place keywords in your
page, you take some time to think what would those keywords be :),

Search engines
I can point you to some places where you can find useful information
:
www.submitcorner.com you'll find all about META tags, how search
engines work, all about spiders, robots etc, www.searchengineworld.com
you can test your pages here, a test just like the one SE do will
be performed and you'll get advices on what to change in your HTML
code, www.freeleads4life.com
and www.ineedhits.com
will submit your site to 40+ search engines. All of these sites
are 100% free. The problem is that there are hundreds if not thousands
of search engines in the world! You probably think that Yahoo is
the only SE you need to get listed on, but you are WRONG! Yahoo
IS very important (if not, it wouldn't take moths to get listed,
if you get listed at all), but there are AOL, Altavista, Google,
HotBot (these two are maybe even more important than Yahoo- Google
gets the largest number of unique visitors per month, and HotBot
will get you in Inktomi database for free, and indirectly in MSN),
Lycos, AllTheWeb... and you are forgetting about hundreds of local
search engines! To go submitting manually would be ridiculous! Remember
that you'll need to resubmit in a moth or two depending on a SE
(over-submitting will get your site banned, so don't overdo it).
Luckily, there are programs that will do all of that in just a
few minutes time, they will submit your website, keep a log file
and resubmit it automatically. The one I'm using is Web
Position Gold, it is specialized in top 10 search engines (70%
of your visitors will come from those 10 engines), it will test
your web pages in a more profound way, it will compare your website
with another one (just pick a site that has similar content and
that is highly listed on, say, HotBot), and in a minute it will
tell you why is competitors HTML better! In my opinion, this is
the best spy-tool on the net. The other one is AddWeb
Pro it doesn't have as good spying abilities but it will submit
your website to 1000+ SE, and has better scheduling technique. I
use it primarily for submitting to those less known search engines..
Also there is Top Dog, I haven't tried it out myself, but based
on the reviews, it seems to be worth a shot. Not having a program
similar to the these seems like a waste of time.

Banner and Link Exchange Services
The other thing you should do is to make a nice looking banner
(remember that a standard size is 480x60 pixels, and usually 10kb
max; visit www.bannertips.com
you'll find everything about banners), and join some of the free
banner exchange services. The basis is that you'll put a rotating
banner on your site, and yours will be seen somewhere else. You
should look for a exchange ratio, it will be something like 4:3
, simply put, it means that every 4 times someone sees a banner
that is hosted with your site, your banner is seen 3 times. Don't
expect to get a lot of visitors this way (everybody hates banners),
but you'll have people getting familiar with your logo or your sites

FFA Network
Besides all of that there are bulletin boards like www.FFANET.com
. The point is that you get a web page (free), and you can post
links to your website on other pages on FFA ("free for all
pages") network (which is huge) as others can post links on
your page. So what? you might ask. Well I wish someone told me about
this, I was posting links every day for a two months of time, and
nothing happened, except my mailbox was filled with hundreds of
e- mails . I started asking my self "What the h... am I doing?"
, I just didn't see a purpose of that...The purpose is...I wont
tell you! I'll let you suffer for months! Just kidding ! :)))) OK,
the purpose is in those e-mails! When you post a link on a page
in FFA network, a message is automatically sent to your mailbox,
containing the e-mail address of the pages owner and a promotional
text of that particular website. Those e-mail addresses are called
"leads", you can send your promotional material to them!
It's not spamming, they are completely legitimate leads, everyone
agrees to receive a one time message from a owner of a page every
time he posts a link on that page! The question about FFA networks
is it worth the time? I think not, you will spend a LOT of time
for just a few more clicks, unless you have an automated piece of
software like Global Poster or AddWeb.
Mail Lists
People who are interested in a particular topic join a mailing
list. Email written by anyone on the list can be sent to everyone
else on the list.
To find out which mailing lists to subscribe to go to Listz.
The basic rules are:
Join a few mailing lists which would include your target audience
and spend some time getting to know them before posting.
Read the rules before posting, they are usually located under FAQ
(frequently asked questions).
Don't use hype in your message.
Answer a question or offer some useful information related to the
current topic and then mention that you can find additional information
at your web site.
Information
But the most important thing in e-biz is having information on
time! Here is a FACT: Information is MONEY! Gathering information
means gathering knowledge. The way to succeed is to have as much
knowledge as one can have. The problem is : it takes a lot of time.
You must surf the net, subscribe to newsletters etc. But the chances
is that you won't get that crucial info, that tip that is the one
thing needed to explode your business. Than I heard of Corey
Rudl, you might have heard of him, he is the guy that makes
over 5 Million per year just for consulting services, his seminar
attendees pay as much as 2500$ , and I found out that he started
an Internet marketing course online, that event entirely changed
my perspective of Internet business. This guy works for Sony, Pepsi,
US Navy... Check it out, it might save you lots of time! You may
take a look at what they are offering here!
Also you might take a look at ROIbots
set of tools. First of all every month you will get various tips
and advices from different experts (not a B.S !) , than you get
a set of tools like : autoresponder server, web page spy, FFA submission
server, Ad tracker, newsletter server etc. As far as I am concerned
it's a must-have. The best thing is that you can try it out for
a month just for 1$ (?!?). For more detailed review click

Another tip for Yahoo, Yahoo is special in many ways, but the most
important is that a real live person will visit your website once
you submit it to their SE, unlike other search engines which just
send a "spider" (automated piece of software that will
inspect your HTML code, and based on that you'll be listed in a
specific position on their list). So, Yahoo deals with it in special
way. That's why their database is not as large comparing to other
SE, like Altavista, and that's why it takes 2-5 months to get listed,
if they approve your submission at all, the waiting lists are huge
(you can imagine why- everybody wants to be in the first 10 on Yahoo).
But, you can do a little trick, you'll submit your site to Yahoo!
Canada, their waiting lists are not as huge, plus once you get listed
on Yahoo Canada you automatically skip the waiting lists on Yahoo!
main. Hopefully they won't change this by the time you read this
article!
